Pakistani batter Omaima Sohail has had a chunk of her bat sent flying while fending off a wicked delivery in her side’s ODI against Australia in Brisbane.

Aussie pace bowler Darcie Brown delivered a swift bouncer at Sohail – and it was enough to take a large chip off her bat. Commentators said the unexpected incident would have been disappointing for the right-hander.

“We’re certainly not used to the ball bouncing that high,” Seven commentator Lisa Sthalekar said.

Fellow commentator and former cricketer Cllum Ferguson agreed.

“That’s devastating whenever that happens, she wouldn’t be playing an international with her second-favourite bat, let me tell you that,” he said.

“That would be her number one bat, that would be absolutely devastating.”

Meanwhile all-rounder Kim Garth made her ODI debut for Australia in the field in the second match of the series against Pakistan at Brisbane’s Allan Border Field after the visitors won the toss.

Garth, who has played all of her previous 34 ODIs for Ireland, made her Twenty20 international debut for Australia against India last month.

She came in for Megan Schutt.

Pakistan are unchanged from the side that lost by eight wickets in Monday’s opening match of the series.

The hosts chased 158 for the loss of two wickets on Monday, with rising star Phoebe Litchfield making an unbeaten 78 on debut and returning skipper Meg Lanning posting 67.

Lanning said Garth deserved her chance.

“There were some brave decisions to move over the other side of the world to chase your dream,” Lanning said.
