In what will be a long-anticipated clash, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi will face off when the Riyadh Season Team, a Saudi All-Star XI side, takes on Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Thursday. The match is scheduled to start at 10:30 PM Indian time.
Ronaldo and Messi haven’t played against each other since their former football clubs, Juventus and Barcelona, clashed in the UEFA Champions League in December 2020.
Both stars also come into the match with contrasting forms. Messi won the Golden Ball award during Argentina’s FIFA World Cup 2022-winning campaign in Qatar, while Cristiano Ronaldo scored only once for Portugal, who reached the quarter-finals.
At the club level, Messi has been among the goals and assists for PSG in the 2022-23 season. Ronaldo, meanwhile, moved to Al Nassr in the first week of January after terminating his contract with English Premier League club Manchester United but is yet to play a match for the Saudi side.
On Thursday, Ronaldo will lead the Saudi All-Star XI, comprising players from Saudi Pro League sides Al Nassr FC and Al Hilal FC, against PSG, who currently top the French Ligue 1 2022-23 points table. Watch Saudi All-Star XI vs PSG live in India.
Apart from Lionel Messi, PSG is expected to field a star-studded line-up including FIFA World Cup Golden Boot winner Kylian Mbappe, Brazilian forward Neymar Jr and right back Achraf Hakimi, in the friendly match.
Around 60,000 spectators are expected to attend the Saudi All-Star XI vs PSG match at the King Fahd International Stadium.
